It’s almost time for the new school year to begin, and one important thing to remember is that there is not a “one size fits all” way to create a timely schedule that works for every family. Each family has different systems and goals. However, no matter how different our methods are, many of us struggle with timeliness and getting everyone ready for the school day. If you and your children consistently feel rushed to get out the door and to drop-off before the bell rings, take a look at these tips to help make mornings more streamlined, efficient, and enjoyable for everyone…especially mom and dad.

1. Map out the morning's schedule. As a family, talk about the best order for getting everyone  ready for the day. Does breakfast come first and clothes are last? Or is clothing more important and needs to be put on first? One mother’s idea is that breakfast is the incentive for her children so clothes are first because the kids will move quickly to get to the food.

2. Pick out clothes the night before. Not only is the daily dilemma over what to wear finalized before you even wake up, this system preemptively stops issues from arising. The issues could be anything from your daughter refusing to wear the shirt you chose to realizing there are no clean or matching socks. *shoes are included in this, don’t want to realize you left the sandals outside and are searching for them for 10 minutes.

3. Get kids to bed on time. Everyone feels better with enough sleep and that’s so important for when you’re trying to learn in school, not to mention getting out of bed in a reasonably good mood. Without enough sleep, it’s too easy for the morning to turn into a grumpy, hectic mess.

4. Get the kids their own alarm clocks. With their own clocks, children have more ownership over their time and buying a fun alarm clock could even give them more motivation for getting up and ready.

5. Let children get ready themselvesParents are always there to help but sometimes it’s beneficial for kids to have the independence of getting themselves ready. Brushing hair, teeth, and putting on clothes is possible for kids and gives you time to get ready yourself.

7. Pack an emergency bag. For those mornings when you didn’t get to breakfast or the children’s hair still isn’t brushed, packing an emergency bag help you to be prepared and less stressed. Whatever you need to make it through the morning, have it ready and available.
